Jet Fuel is one of the most important products of crude oil with increasing rate of use in recent years. Refineries, which can produce high quality jet fuel with the lowest price are more succesful in the competitive world’s Market. On the other hand, the use of kerosene (a pre-requisite for jet fuel producing) is being replaced by natural gas in many cases, causing refineries to face with extra load of kerosene. Also, jet fuel produced by chemical treating of kerosene could be the least expensive process.
In this research, the feed of all the refineries in Iran were distilled separately, the kerosene fraction of each was separated and their required properties were determined. The results shows that the main properties of most of these kerosene fractions (e.g calorific value and aromatic content) are in the range of standard levels for jet fuel and the remaining properties will be reached standard level during existing treating process in the oil refineries. Also, pilot investigation was carried out using a typical liquid-liquid coalescer in Tehran Refinery, which showed reduction in the cost and problems of jet fuel production.
